Birdie in a Tree

Thank you so much to Tiffany for the giveaway posted on her awesome blog.  I was the lucky winner of this incredibly whimsical necklace by Evalyn from Etsy.  I am absolutely in love with so many of her pieces right now.

This necklace is so versatile I think I'll be wearing it almost everyday from now on!

I'm also loving her gold bracelet, it's so Fall.

Thanks so much Tiffany and Evalyn! Blog giveaways are so much fun, stay tuned I'll be doing a giveaway soon.

Dia de los Muertos!!!!!!!

Halloween is over but today was The Day of the Dead!! I love this holiday because I feel its significane is so different than the negativity we can associate with death in the West sometimes.  To really honor and look at the diseased as beings to celebrate rather than mourn is absolutely beautiful and inspiring to me.  We went to East LA to check out the celebration.

There were SO many of these rings and necklaces that I wanted. They were stunning and made from real precious stones. Will be sure to get the designers contact info up here soon.

The Bean Man

To get my "study" on I usually go to Novel Cafe in downtown.  The groundworks coffee here is awesome-everything else not so much.  It's a little loft with a "indie-coffeeshop" feel, mediocre food, and questionable music. One thing I do love is that they feature local artists each month by placing their pieces on the walls. This weekend when I went I fell in love with "The Bean Man" paintings by Gaia Bracco an Italian artist now living in Los Angeles.

A few pictures of her work on the walls of Novel

Her snippet about her inspiration for The Bean Man reads:
"You were born alone and you will die alone. Whether you like it or not, loneliness escorts man during his entire life. We realize it during brief illuminating moments and ironically this loneliness makes us feel less alone, this emptiness is common to everyone. An intimate and deep space, completely white(or black)to be filled only with our thoughts, our secret hopes, our dreams. A starting point to look at ourselves, the perfect viewers."

"Party"

"Obama"

"Spotlight"

And my favorite (which I will be taking home):

"Falling Apart"

I don't know about you but I totally dig The Bean Man.

Dream on

This stunning gown created by Nilofer is my dream wedding dress (yes I am already married).  I don't think you really need any explanation as to why this is perfect. Every single thing about it is more and more gorgeous to me. You can click on the images to enlarge the pictures and I really suggest you do because the detailing is phenomenal.

As if the front was not gorgeous enough.

A Little Getaway

It's so important to just get away and escape from everyday life sometimes.  I went on an ever-so-minor-mini break this weekend to San Diego.  We stayed at La Estancia and it was incredibly cozy! The resort is pretty gorgeous and secluded.

On our balcony,I loved this little chair, intimately facing the garden.

There was a wedding in the courtyard. The setup looked so fairytale-like.

Stopped by a design store called My Own Space where this little guy greeted us at the door.

We were debating whether or not to get this Kartell Top Top dining table.

We decided on a no. The clear legs just don't do it for us.

We had dinner at the Oceanaire. I've never had better crab cakes in my life (honestly) they melted in my mouth. Sadly we devoured them too fast before taking any pictures.

We ended it with a baked Alaska, which we got for free! The waitress messed up a few times and she felt so bad she gave us a free dessert. I kind of like it when this happens because getting free stuff always makes things sweeter, especially dessert. My husband was not that fond of it but I loved it. Anything with meringue,  ice cream,  and chocolate is good to me.

A few random pictures from our break:
The sunset

While browsing shops in La Jolla I came across this dress in a boutique. I know it's overly designed and almost tacky but I am really drawn to it. I think I could fill this one out nicely. If only there wasn't a $1500 price tag attached to it.

A perfect mini-getaway this weekend consisted of an intimate resort,  quality food,  gorgeous nature, and an awesome pair of shoes.

I kind of fell in love with these Michael Kors Suede Buckle Boots

Balmain and The King

Balmain you've hit me in my soft spot. Everyone knows I have a serious love for the late king of pop.  I think some people truly embody style and he was definitely one of them.  Balmain has been using Michael Jackson as inspiration for a long time and they have nailed it. Balmain pieces seem to give a sense of of strength,  power, and confidence.

This blazer is all about the STRONG shoulder and it is so bad-ass. It should/could be worn with anything.  I know Zara has made a lot of copies of this shoulder this season. Has anyone tried them out yet?

It's the shoulder again. But this time it's a dress and covered in sequins.  So it's just 560958690 times more bad-ass.

This is it. This is what kills me. This is what would make me feel as gifted and invinsible as Michael was on stage if I were to ever wear it.

A few pictures of the king himself rocking Balmain.

Balmain studded jacket Spring 2009 and leapord pants fall 2008.

Long live style.
